The service, as it is
Escudo is offered as is. We put a lot of care into making it work well, but we cannot guarantee it is always available or free of errors. It is a tool that helps you, not insurance against fraud.
What the filter can and cannot do
The filter greatly reduces the scam SMS that reach your phone, but no filter catches one hundred percent. Escudo is built to be careful: when it is not sure a message is a scam, it lets it through rather than setting aside something you might have wanted to see. Keep using your judgment with any message that asks you for money, details or urgent clicks.
Apple also defines where a filter can act: only on SMS and MMS from numbers not in your contacts. If you reply to a number, iOS treats that conversation as known and permanently stops showing it to the filter. Messages from your contacts, iMessage, RCS and apps like WhatsApp are outside the reach of any filter on iPhone.
The emergency guide is educational
The guide for when you think you fell for a scam is educational material. It explains general steps you can follow, but it never tells you whether a specific threat is real or fake, because that is something we cannot know. In a serious situation, talk to your bank or the authorities.
Subscription and payments
Familiar is a yearly subscription that renews on its own. Apple handles the charge through your account, not us, and you can cancel it whenever you want from your Apple account settings. It stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. As an App Store subscription, it is also governed by Apple's standard terms for subscriptions, which you can read at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula.
No accounts
Escudo has no accounts or passwords. There is nothing to remember and nothing that can be stolen from you. Your subscription lives in your Apple ID, not on a server of ours.
